Beyond The Closed Door

I could have loved you. Maybe on some level I already did. I feared you, the image of perfection. Unspoiled, unbroken, a shimmering ray of light. You were the delicate crystal goblet in my hand I was terrified to break or stain. Like a precious sand I let you slip through my fingers. The last kiss. The last embrace. The door closes. Should I run after you? Have I changed my mind? Memories surface like flashes of light, idealized and happy and content. You could have been the one if circumstances were different. I can't fight fate and its harsh designs. As I hear the elevator door close, I lean against the doorframe as the saltwater rain begins to trickle from my eyes.
